Night Bloom

by Julia Wachs

The inspiration and namesake of this pattern is from the cacti that bloom only at night, a beautiful yet fleeting display. Night Bloom uses Foundation Paper Piecing to create its precise points and mathematically correct octagons

"I like the effect the different color spikes have going diagonally across the quilt. It gives it such an interesting movement."

Julia Wachs is an aerospace engineer who started quilting as a hobby after moving to Seattle from Alabama right after college. She figured it out independently for a while, but attributes much of her quilting inspiration and growth to the Seattle Modern Quilt Guild. Her love for quilting has only expanded since then, and she launched her own creative business in 2020 called Julia Wachs Designs. It includes modern quilt pattern design and technical editing. She likes to mix it up between quilting techniques and is always eager to learn something new. When she’s not quilting, she enjoys traveling, hiking, running, sampling new beer, and playing with her dog, Andre.
