ISSUE 05 / QUILTS OF THE MONTH
Gambit
BY TAYLOR KRZESZOWSKI
The Gambit quilt pattern is made up entirely of strip piecing. This pattern is a great way to practice using a scant seam allowance and hone your point-matching skills.
Buckled Up
BY SYLVIA SCHAEFER
This pattern is based on a traditional block called “Children of Israel.” Modifying the block and then extending the lines that reach the edge creates an interesting woven design.
Seffarine Stars
BY TIGHE FLANAGAN
This paper-pieced pattern is based on a traditional Moroccan zellige (tile mosaic) pattern found in many historic buildings around the country, among them the Seffarine Madrassa in Fez.
ISSUE 05 / BLOCK STUDY
Mexican Tile Study
By Naomi Bombardi-Wilson
Based on a pattern found in Mexican tile work, this block has several options for making a gorgeous quilt. The Mexican Tile Study block is fun in a two-color version but still leaves ample room for playing with color placement to make a fun variety. Try making it on point with a mix of bright colors and see how far you can go with the design.
