Backpack Tote

by Kristi McDonough

This sustainable, convertible Backpack Tote is the perfect way to preserve and repurpose your favorite pair of worn-out jeans. Not only does it help keep your clothing from ending up in the landfill, you can also use up some of your big pieces of batting scraps that you’ve been saving!

Grab your scraps or leftover blocks to add fun panels, and braid a handle from strips of anything you’ve got laying around.

Kristi is a quilter, pattern designer, garment sewist, toy maker, teacher and co-founder of Create and Sustain, a nonprofit organization dedicated to “greening” the quilting and sewing industry. She has been sewing since the age of five years old and has made everything from wedding dresses (she’s even been published twice in Seattle Bride magazine!) and quilts to recovering swivel chairs for the Seattle Seahawks. Since moving to the Atlanta area in 2013, Kristi and her mom have opened The Cotton Farm, a cute little quilt shop in Roswell, GA. Now, you can find her there six days a week sharing her love of sewing and quilting with local members of the community and visitors alike. She is well known for her use of color and ability to throw things together in ways most people wouldn’t consider. Kristi loves to teach and share her knowledge! She can be found online at www.schnitzelandboo.com or on Instagram as @schnitzelandboo.
