Barbed

by Molly Wardlow

This block looks more complicated than it is! Using half-square triangles and one inset strip makes for quick assembly and infinite possibilities! Vary the placement of light and dark values to create interest in the negative spaces.

Molly is a quilter and metallurgical engineer living in Houston, TX. She found quilting as a nice balance of creativity for her logical brain. Molly always has multiple projects going on at one time and loves to experiment with different styles, techniques, and fabrics. Molly has been sewing since she was 7 and has expanded her crafty knowledge to general sewing, embroidery, crocheting, knitting (though not very good at it), and of course quilting! Contrary to most people’s story, Molly didn’t learn to sew from a family member like her mom or grandma (her grandma despises sewing, and says Molly gets the talent from her great grandma). She learned from an afterschool club and her constant love for creating grew from there.

Since joining the HMQG, Molly finds herself being pulled towards the bold geometric and simplistic design that modern quilting has to offer and is hoping to expand her repertoire in the coming years. Molly is learning to pattern write and hopes to release her first pattern in 2021 on her Etsy site SouthernSteelFlower!
